Become a remember

World leaders promised to address three problems that affect children by 2015: extreme poverty, death and lack of education. Not enough progress is being made. Help us remind them to keep their promise. Join us by signing the petition below.

To the leaders of the world,

Don’t let our children down. In 2000, 189 countries signed the Millennium Development Goals. This document promised a better future for children by 2015. A great idea but little has changed.

We are concerned citizens from around the world. We believe children should not live in extreme poverty, go to bed hungry, miss school or die an uneccessary death. On behalf of millions of children, we urge you to:

- Put the Millenium Development Goals high on your agenda
- Achieve these goals by 2015
- Call on other countries to do the same

It’s not too late to act. Your leadership can make the difference for millions of children. Make your promise a reality.

Thank you.

3 Millennium development goals that affect children

  • #1

    Reduce child mortality rates

Reduce the death rate for children under the age of five by two-thirds.

Every minute 21 children die an unnecessary death. Although the mortality rate is falling, it’s not falling fast enough to reach the 2015 target. Improving nutrition while advancing the fight against pneumonia and diarrhea can save millions.

  • #2

    Achieve universal primary education

Ensure that every boy and every girl can complete primary school.

Over 60 million children of primary school age are out of school. Many more girls are affected than boys. Without school, their opportunities in life are severely limited.

  • #3

    Eliminate extreme poverty and hunger

Cut in half the number of people with incomes of less than $1 a day.

Progress is being made worldwide, which is encouraging. If current trends continue until 2015, there will still be 1 billion people living in extreme poverty in sub-Sahara Africa and Southeast Asia.
